Windows Installer Error - Please wait while Windows configures [Program Name]

Sometimes when you open InfoFind or another program on your computer you may see a message "Please wait while Windows configures [Product Name]". This document describes the problem and how it can be fixed.

Cause of Error

The image below shows an example of a Windows Installer Error when opening InfoFind. This is an error that can occur occasionally with many Windows programs. It is usually not a serious problem but it can be very frustrating because it can cause a program to take several minutes to open.

Windows Installer Error

The reason for this error is usually due to one program being only partially installed and Windows needs to finish making updates to the installation. Many programs share common Windows Files and when a program with a similar file is opened Windows will run the installer if it determines there is a problem with one or more programs.
If you receive this error message and click Cancel button then each time you open the program you will still receive the message. The best thing to do is to wait for Windows Installer to finish. It may take several tries of opening and closing a program for this error to go away. If it still continues then you may need to uninstall and reinstall the programs that cause this.

If none of these solutions work then you may want to refer to the following support links from Microsoft. The second links provides a utility [Windows Installer CleanUp Utility] that can be used to help solve the problem.
